The FedUniPB is a teaching band which performs at many University and civic functions in Ballarat and beyond. We are also very committed to competition to hone our playing skill, and in recent years we have been successful at Australian, New Zealand, South Pacific and Victorian Championships.
The Band maintains the hall (Reid Court, next to the Cricket Club Rooms) which provides for long-term storage, archives and a smaller practice setting. It is used greatly during the summer contest season for open-air practices on the adjacent oval. The highland dancing group also practise in this hall.
In 1995, an arrangement was reached with the then University of Ballarat such that it became the naming sponsor of the Band. In 2014, the Band changed its name with that of the University it proudly continues to represent. The Band provides pipers for special functions, especially graduation ceremonies and the Band plays at Open Days. We represent the University in Australia and overseas and exemplify the University’s commitment to culture, community, and of course education through the extensive program of teaching learners. Band members who are studying at FedUni also benefit from a scholarship scheme to subsidise their education.
Our Band is very family-oriented and over the years has had within its ranks several members of some families, spanning three, four and more generations.
